Emergency Grants Fund

Financial assistance helps struggling families in urgent need of help with rent, groceries, medical expenses, child care costs and more

What is the Emergency Grants program?

Each year, the Catholic Children’s Aid Foundation helps hundreds of families pay for vital goods and services to provide stability for their children. The Emergency Grants Fund offers financial support that is not available through child welfare funding.

How it helps:

Emergency assistance keeps a family’s financial shortfall from harming children and youth

Children are most at risk of entering child welfare care when their family faces financial hardship because of unexpected expenses, illness or job loss that tips a precarious situation into a crisis. As food bank use grows and housing costs continue to soar in Toronto, these emergency grants make a real and significant difference. These grants cover a wide range of needs for the family’s safety and wellbeing, including purchasing clothing, mattresses, rent and basic household and school supplies; covering child care, transportation costs and medical expenses; and assisting with groceries, rent and housing maintenance.

Your impact:

When a crisis endangers Catholics, your support is there to help

Thanks to your donations, the Foundation allocates more than $100,000 in emergency grants to be there for children, youth and families involved with the Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto (CCAS) when they need urgent financial assistance.

Your donations have provided:

  • A bed for Matteo*, a youth who moved out of a tent and into a rented room
  • Two months’ worth of baby supplies for the Lysenkos*, a newly arrived refugee family
  • A transit pass so Sofia*, a single mom, could take her child to daycare and keep her administrative job
  • Grocery gift cards for the Mason family* after emergency car repairs drained their savings
