What is Camps 4 Kids?
The CCAF-funded Camps 4 Kids program covers costs for children and youth involved with the Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto (CCAS) to go to camp.
How it helps:
Boosting mental and physical health—and play!
The benefits of day camp and overnight camp are well-established, from allowing kids to enjoy outdoor activity and socialization to building skills and leadership opportunities. Yet systematic barriers and financial instability can dramatically reduce access to camps for families. Spending time in nature with peers offers a unique and valuable experience for Toronto children, many of whom have endured family disruption and poverty. Away from screens and cramped indoor spaces, kids can try new creative and physical activities and build self-esteem and independence.
“We don’t just want children to survive, we want them to thrive,” says Jim Gilligan, Executive Director of the CCAF. “It’s about holistic support. Opportunities like going to camp make their lives better.”
Your impact:
Making dreams come true
Each year, your donations to the CCAF help over 100 young people aged five to 17 to create memories at camp. “Camp was one of the best times of my life because it was fun, energizing and well needed,” says Marissa*, a former foster child who went to overnight camp. “I enjoyed having the freedom of being outdoors and seeing the world in a whole new way. I met plenty of new friends and gained lots of confidence in myself.” When you support CCAF, you’re offering fresh air, friendship, learning and resilience building for Toronto kids and youth who need it most.
